(Updated 4/19/2017)

Please note that effective immediately students enrolled as non-degree seeking students are no longer limited to 8.5 credit hours of Evening Classes credit in a semester (4 in a term). Students may register up to full-time in Evening Classes credit if they choose.

For students who plan to enroll in several courses, we highly recommend students consider taking at least some of their classes at the BYU Salt Lake Center. Evening Students may enroll in classes at the Salt Lake Center regardless of the time when the class is offered.

BYU Evening Classes cannot be used to directly earn university degrees or academic certificates. Courses taken through Evening Classes may be able to satisfy degree requirements in transfer. If you need assistance to determine how to best utilize BYU Evening Classes towards your educational goals, please feel free to schedule an appointment with our academic advisor.

If you are interested in earning a degree from BYU, please contact the BYU admissions office or the Bachelor of General Studies program.

If I come to BYU as an Evening Student and do well, will that allow me to be admitted to BYU and attend as a fully matriculated student in the future?

Generally, students transferring to BYU with credits earned at other institutions are expected to have a minimum of 24 earned hours and a transfer GPA above the B+ range (the average is an A-). Hours earned as an Evening Student at BYU will be counted as part of the earned hours and GPA requirement for transfer students.

BYU is an academically difficult environment and very few students get all A's. Therefore, evening students who are seeking regular admissions and need to enhance their GPA may have a better chance by attending another college or university which is less academically competitive than BYU. If you wish to discuss more about your specific circumstances we recommend scheduling an in person or phone appointment with our academic advisor.
